GLOBAL Leadership Program
This course deals with the central models, concepts and theories for successful behavior in intercultural leadership and global teamwork situations. It includes insights into successful global leadership styles and role behavior in different regions and countries (e.g. GLOBE project). Culture defined as software of the mind. It is a series of instinctive responses that reflect the way our group thinks. Culture moderates our emotions and filters the information processing in all our interactions and further influences the nature of all our reactions. Culture influences business decisions through attitudes, beliefs, and values that influence the perceptions, preferences, and actions of individuals (outside of stakeholders and managers). A central focus of this executive class is on cultural self-confidence as well as scientific approaches and techniques in the field of intercultural communication and international management for a diplomatic and confident appearance, among other things in negotiation situations in different cultures around the world. Groundbreaking ideas and concepts of diversity management, research on culture and intercultural leadership (e.g. Hall, Hofstede and Meyer) and the role of culture in the corporate environment are presented and techniques and strategies of verbal, paraverbal communication are practically trained in an intercultural context. However, companies can only remain successful in their markets if their managers combine professional and intercultural skills in one person. A global mindset is an important part of such intercultural skills and characterizes the ability to understand and connect different cultures. More specifically, we examine the complexities and challenges a global manager or executive may face in managing cross-border operations due to differences in cultural value systems, business norms, and culturally diverse workforce (such as age, race, gender, educational background, inclusion). Therefore, the idea of “think globally, act locally” or a global mindset is a prerequisite for taking operational differences to domestic markets into account. The focus is on the manager’s ability to lead, motivate, communicate and negotiate with people with a different cultural and diverse environment.
INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of this workshop, leaders should be able to: Discuss the challenges and opportunities of working in different global environments. Develop global leadership skills for diverse and multicultural teams. Interpret verbal and non-verbal behaviors from different cultures and discuss global strategies for overcoming cultural differences. Build trust by mastering the most effective techniques for managing people remotely. Establish a thorough understanding of the concepts and frameworks that underline international business operations from the perspective of human resources, diversity and culture, as well as business practices that are required to compete successfully in global markets. Strengthening of analytical and interpersonal communication skills of the participants developed, conflict resolution skills addressed. Develop skills to analyze communicative situations, assess cultural differences and communicate with people of the same and different backgrounds.
